A Message From Honest Dumplings Co-Founder, Ray
Today we are officially announcing that we are dropping our price after 8 years in business. During this time when costs from nearly everyone are increasing, we are excited to pass on a lower price to our customers.
When we started Honest Dumplings in 2014, I folded every single dumpling by hand in my home kitchen. 8 years later, we are making what i used to make in a week in an hour in a HACCP manufacturing facility we built in 2018. (I used to think I am faster than our small dumpling folding machine but data proves I was wrong.) I remember sitting in the empty building with my business partners Chris and Allen in 2017 dreaming about what our facility could be. Then came the difficulties, challenges, sleepless nights, heated discussions, the list goes on. Chris often said that if we knew how hard it was to build a food company, we would never have started this.
But every time we reflect on everything we have been through together, we wouldn't want to have done anything different. Every time I walk into our current facility, every time I watch our team making dumplings, it still feels unreal that we built this. It feels like I am walking into our dream.
And we know we are not there yet. World dumpling domination, the reinvention of grocery store frozen aisles, the fight with food conglomerates. We are still far from our ultimate goals.
But we have reached an important milestone today that we are all very proud of. By building and growing Uproot Food Collective and working with other like-minded food companies, we are able to have better margin for our products: the prices for our packaging and ingredients are lower, the efficiency of our productions has improved, the cost of distribution has come down. With our increased economy of scale, we can now afford to drop our price.
We hope our lower price means more people can enjoy our dumpling more often. Our increased capacity also means we can make a lot more new flavours more often.
