Caplansky's Delicatessen
Driven by a vision of a Montreal smoked meat sandwich, in 2008 Zane Caplansky opened his Jewish Deli in downtown Toronto to much acclaim. This quest for the authentic led him and wife Willa to develop Caplansky’s own, in-house mustards. Enthusiastic demand led them to sell these mustards retail. Although retail mustard sales stopped in 2016 and the main deli closed in 2018, there is still a Caplansky's Deli restaurant at Pearson International Airport.
His loyal fans never did stop asking for their favourite mustards though. So, in 2019, when the Toronto Blue Jays asked them to run a Caplansky's Deli pop-up in their stadium, they used that opportunity to reboot the mustard brand. It was a hit! Maybe even a home run. Caplansky's fine mustards are sold across Canada, and now at Uproot.
Did you know: mustard is truly Canada’s condiment – over 85% of the world’s supply of mustard seeds is produced right here on the prairies of Alberta and Saskatchewan
